Before Garth the song was recorded by David Chamberlain, for the Country International Records label in 1989.

Earl Bud Lee and Dewayne Blackwell wrote the song in 1989, and they gave a demo to Garth Brooks, that those moments he released his first album, Garth Brooks (Capitol 1989), Garth fell in love with the song, which officially recorded the following year, for your second job.

According to Earl Bud Lee, the idea for the song was born when he and some of his fellow songwriters met for lunch one day at Tavern on the Row, a popular restaurant in Nashville. When the check arrived, Lee realized he had forgotten his money. They asked her how she was going to pay for the food and she replied: “Do not worry, I have friends in low places, I know the cook”. Lee and his composition partner, Dewayne Blackwell, recognized immediately. that the line “friends in low places” had the potential to write a song. A few months later, Lee and Blackwell were at a party, celebrating a recent success number one from another composer. They began to talk about the idea of “friends in low places” and “at that very moment, everything began to unite in a song”. They wrote the song on paper napkins. When composers polished “Friends in Low Places,” they contacted Garth Brooks to see if he recorded a demo for them.

Garth Brooks – Friends In Low Places Lyrics

Blame it all on my roots
I showed up in boots
And ruined your black-tie affair
The last one to know
The last one to show
I was the last one you thought you’d see there

And I saw the surprise
And the fear in his eyes
When I took his glass of champagne
And I toasted you
Said, «Honey, we may be through,
But you’ll never hear me complain.»

‘Cause I’ve got friends in low places
Where the whiskey drowns
And the beer chases
My blues away
And I’ll be okay
I’m not big on social graces
Think I’ll slip on down to the oasis
Oh, I’ve got friends in low places

Well, I guess I was wrong
I just don’t belong
But then I’ve been there before
Everything’s all right
I’ll just say goodnight
And I’ll show myself to the door

Hey, I didn’t mean
To cause a big scene
Just give me an hour and then
Well, I’ll be as high
As that ivory tower
That you’re livin’ in

‘Cause I’ve got friends in low places
Where the whiskey drowns
And the beer chases
My blues away
And I’ll be okay
I’m not big on social graces
Think I’ll slip on down to the oasis
Oh, I’ve got friends in low places

I’ve got friends in low places
Where the whiskey drowns
And the beer chases
My blues away
And I’ll be okay
I’m not big on social graces
Think I’ll slip on down to the oasis
Oh, I’ve got friends in low places

I’ve got friends in low places
Where the whiskey drowns
And the beer chases
My blues away
And I’ll be okay
I’m not big on social graces
Think I’ll slip on down to the oasis
Oh, I’ve got friends in low places

I’ve got friends in low places
Where the whiskey drowns
And the beer chases
My blues away
And I’ll be okay
