Skeeter Davis – I Forgot More Than You’ll Ever Know

Reached number # 1 in the charst of Country and western, for 6 weeks, five in a row. On the US pop charts, he reached # 18. “I Forgot More Than You'll Ever Know” was a blockbuster hit, the only number one country song by a female duet until the rise of The Judds some thirty years later.

“I Forgot More Than You’ll Ever Know”, a song written by Cecil Allen Null, Skeeter Davis recorded it twice.

The first, as a duo, The Davis Sisters (Skeeter Davis and Betty Jack Davis), the song was recorded for the RCA label, on May 23, 1953, at Thomas Productions, 109 13th Ave. North, Nashville, TN. In the same session two other songs were recorded: “SORROW AND PAIN” and “ROCK-A-BYE BOOGIE”. In the recording session, The Sisters Davis, they were accompanied by: Chet Atkins (guitar), Velma Smith (guitar), Jerry Byrd (steel), Ernie Newton (bass) and Hal Smith (fiddle). With the production of Stephen Sholes, the song was released in June 1953, and on October 17, 1953, reached number # 1 in the charst of Country and western, for 6 weeks, five in a row. Betty Jack was killed in an automobile accident the week the record was released.

Skeeter Davis, re-recorded the song for the RCA label, in June 1958, at Victor Studio, 1611 Hawkins St., Nashville, TN. The song was released in July 1958, but failed to enter the charts.

The song was included in Skeeter Davis’s debut album, I’ll Sing You a Song and Harmonize Too (RCA 1958), the album was released in November 1958.
