Dave Stamey – Porch Music

New Review by Rick Huff " Best of the West Reviews", Dave Stamey - Porch Music

Apart from the visibility he’s given Western Music and renown accorded him over the years, there is another key reason Dave Stamey was inducted into the IWMA Hall Of Fame. The vision contained in his songwriting and the artful rendering of those works place him in a special category. Repeatedly his creations become modern classics and staples of the Western repertoire. Classics-to-come will be also be found in this, his newest.
Stamey has lost none of his creative edge and proves it resoundingly with such marvels as “Wild Again,” a grand concept song “Welcome To The Desert,” the uptempo yet wistful piece “The Rodeo Parade” (how often have we bemoaned something we’ve built that crumbled before us) and his tribute to “The Saddle” crafted long ago just for him. When life comes at you “Like An Old Mama Cow,” you’d best just turn her out. There’s a wonderful, novelty rag breakup song “The Next Sound You Hear” (because you haven’t been listening) and he goes vulnerably tender with another pair (“I Already Gave My Heart To You” and “For The Sake Of The Moon”). Even a bit of the Mexican “Banda” sound underscores the paranoid “Too Many Crows.” There’s more, but with Dave Stamey that’s always the case!
Fourteen tracks, very highly recommended.
