The song was a major hit for Bob Wills and The Texas Playboys, reaching number eight on the Country charts in 1950. It became one of his signature songs.
In 1962, it was recorded live in San Antonio, Texas and on November 19, 1964, Bob re-recorded it for the longhorn label, Summet Studio, Dallas, TX.
The 1964 version was the first included in a studio album, Keepsake Album No. 1 (Longhorn 1964).
The melody comes from an 1856 ballad, Darling Nelly Gray, which John Wills knew as a violin tune “Faded Love” is a sentimental song about lost love. The name comes from the saying that follows each verse: I remember our faded love.
