Merle Haggard and Leona Williams – The Bull and the Beaver

In 1978 Merle Haggard & Leona Williams, they had a number 8 US country hit with ‘The Bull And The Beaver’ but in 1983, when the marriage ended, they appeared in the charts with the appropriately named ‘We’re Strangers Again’.

Leona Williams In 1975, she joined Merle Haggard’s show, initially as a backing vocalist. However, when Haggard divorced Bonnie Owens, she not only became the featured vocalist but on 7 October 1978, she also became the third Mrs Haggard. They combined to write several songs and recorded an album together but the marriage soon proved turbulent. In 1978, they had a number 8 US country hit with ‘The Bull And The Beaver’ but in 1983, when the marriage ended, they appeared in the charts with the appropriately named ‘We’re Strangers Again’. Merle Haggard and Leona Williams – The Bull and the Beaver Lyrics

You’ve got the bull of the wood
You’ve got the beaver from Missouri
We can’t get nothin’ done on this C.B
You’ve got the bull of the woods
You’ve got the beaver from Missouri
We oughta get together, you and me
If you’ll give me your ten-twenty
I’ll be glad to give you mine
And I’ll put this eighteen wheeler on the side
Well, it won’t be hard to back it
Babe, I’m right behind you
Just put them air brakes on and let ‘er slide
You’ve got the bull of the wood
You’ve got the beaver from Missouri
We can’t get nothin’ done on this C.B
You’ve got the bull of the wood
You’ve got the beaver from Missouri
And we oughta get together you and me
Well, if you’ve got a runnin’ buddy
Let your partner sleep awhile
Ten-four, come back, I’m waitin’ on your call
Hey, you sound like a keeper
I know I’ve got a nifty sleeper
With sexy lights and mirrors on the wall
Well, I’m a bull of the wood
And I’m the beaver from Missouri
But we can’t get nothin’ done on this C.B
I’m the bull of the wood
I’m the beaver from Missouri
We gotta get together, you and me
Yeah, we’re gonna get together, you and me
I’m a bull of the wood
And I’m the beaver from Missouri
We oughta get together, you and me
