The song peaked at number 4 on the Billboard Hot Country Singles chart, making it his only top-ten. It also reached number 1 on the RPM Country Tracks chart in Canada, thus becoming his only number 1.

The song is performed from the perspective of a patron of a neighborhood tavern.
