Sgt Barry Sadler – Ballad of the Green Berets lyrics

[Verse 1]
Fighting soldiers from the sky
Fearless men who jump and die
Men who mean just what they say
The brave men of the Green Beret
[Chorus]
Silver wings upon their chest
These are men, America’s best
One hundred men will test today
But only three win the Green Beret
[Verse 2]
Trained to live off nature’s land
Trained in combat hand to hand
Men who fight by night and day
Courage take from the Green Beret
[Chorus]
Silver wings upon their chest
These are men, America’s best
One hundred men will test today
But only three win the Green Beret
[Verse 3]
Back at home a young wife waits
Her Green Beret has met his fate
He had died for those oppressed
Leaving her this last request
[Chorus]
Put silver wings on my son’s chest
Make him one of America’s best
He’ll be a man they’ll test one day
Have him win the Green Beret

  1. I have always loved The Ballad of The Green Berets. My son Eugene Uhl III followed in his Dad and Granddad’s footsteps. His Grandpa – Eugene Uhl (1926-1986) was in the Marines, Air Force, Army, and National Guard. His Dad Eugene Uhl Jr.(19648-2016) was in the Army and was hurt pretty bad in Viet Nam, my son Eugene Uhl III (1981-2003), was in the Army also. He served in Iraq. He intended to go to Ranger School when he came home. Well, he never came home alive. He was my last child and my only son. I sure do miss him.

  2. I listened to this as a kid it still makes me shiver I had family serving during Vietnam and my future husband and his brother , this song shows the love of county and pride these soldiers had
