I’m a Lover Not a Fighter
There’s a sweetness to this set, the kind of easy, light-on-its-feet joy that reminds me why I love doing this show. This week, I found myself smiling at how many incredible artists reached out and trusted me with their music. Billy Mata from out in Texas, sent something warm and familiar, my buddy “Bad” Bob Rohan from Texas dropped a tune the way only he can, Casey MacGill out in Washington added that timeless charm, and the rest of the artists gave this episode its glow. It’s a gift when musicians across the map choose to share their work with you, and I never take that lightly.
Before we step into the music, I want to share a little good news. Mae Out West has a new home in the desert — I’m joining the Radio Goldfield family. Starting soon, the show will air on KGFN Radio Goldfield and stream across KDYR 90.9 in Dyer/FLV, KHRM 90.3 in Hadley/Round Mountain, FM 99.5 in Beatty, and FM 92.1 in Hawthorne. A California-born show finding its way onto Nevada airwaves feels like a natural expansion, and I’m grateful to carry this music to even more listeners.
This episode is all soft charm and good humor, the swing, the tenderness, the sideways wink that makes old country feel young again. It’s the kind of set that reminds you that loving gently is still a kind of strength.
California Spotlight: Peter Petty
This week’s California Spotlight shines on Sacramento’s own Peter Petty, whose performance of “I’m an Old Cowhand” fits perfectly into the spirit of this episode. He’s theatrical, bold, playful, and always right on pitch , the kind of performer who brings the joy back into the room with one note. He feels like a natural star in a show built around sweetness, humor, and heart.
