Moe Bandy – Bandy, The Rodeo Clown

The song reached number 7 on country charts in the USA and number 4 on Canadian charts, in my opinion it was a song to reach number one. The song would be included in Moe's third album, Bandy The Rodeo Clown (GRC 1975).

Song written by Sanger D. Shafer & Lefty Frizzell, was recorded by Moe Bandy, in May 1975 and released in June of the same year, for the GRC Record label, with the production of Ray Baker. The song reached number 7 on country charts in the USA and number 4 on Canadian charts, in my opinion it was a song to reach number one. The song would be included in Moe’s third album, Bandy The Rodeo Clown (GRC 1975). The song launches Bandy as himself in the lead role, a rodeo clown who laughs through the anguish and physical pain of the work. This was his last job, for the GRC label, that same year (1975) he would sign for the Columbia label, recording, Hank Williams, You Wrote My Life (Columbia 1975), another great album.

Listening to Moe Bandy singing is listening to everything that is right and good in country music. He is one of a rare and courageous race that refused to change direction towards the “not so real” country music of today, but was able to get his successes in the same way.

And not the kind of cute, fluffy shots that buzz and forget, but the kind of hard, rich and timeless strokes Hank Williams, Lefty Frizzell and a handful of others has had.

Moe Bandy Classics – Moe sings about liquor, winds and nonsense.

Moe is the hawk king of the third generation of honky-tonk. With a voice that can be as cool as Smith & Wesson’s steel, hot as a surefire, it sings about the important things in life; liquors, wide, honky-tonk salons, and love, sweet love.

Moe Bandy – Bandy, The Rodeo Clown Lyrics

Who was once a bull-hooking son of a gun
Now who keeps a pint hid out behind chute number one
Who was riding high till a pretty girl rode him to the ground
Any kid knows where to find me, I’m Bandy the rodeo clown

In the riding and the roping I was closing in on number one
Now in dreams at night I ride on that silver saddle I never won
Since she left me the whiskey takes me to the rodeo grounds
Where the cowboys think I’m handy, I’m Bandy the rodeo clown

I could ride em all the bulls and the broncs knew I was boss
But the ride that woman took me on broke a whole lot more than this old cowboy’s bones
While the tears on my makeup melts my painted smile into a frown
The crowd thinks I’m a dandy, I’m Bandy the rodeo clown

I could ride em all the bulls and the broncs knew I was boss
But the ride that woman took me on broke a whole lot more than this old cowboy’s bones
While the tears on my makeup melts my painted smile into a frown
The crowd thinks I’m a dandy, I’m Bandy the rodeo clown
